Also known as:  Oxytetracycline hydrochloride.

Terramycin is created by pharmacy specialists to struggle with dangerous infections spread by bacteria. The target of Terramycin is to control, ward off, terminate and kill bacteria.

Terramycin belongs to Tetracycline antibiotics group.

The active ingredient of Terramycin is Oxytetracycline.

Oxytetracycline is primarily bacteriostatic and is thought to exert its antimicrobial effect by the inhibition of protein synthesis. Slowing the bacteria's growth allows the body's defense mechanisms to destroy them.

Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, it is active against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive organisms.

When penicillin is contraindicated, Terramycin is an alternative drug in treatment.

Terramycin and other antibiotics don't treat viral infections (flu, cold and other).

Take Terramycin by mouth with a full glass of water on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.

Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Terramycin.

Avoid taking milk, dairy products, calcium-enriched juices before and after consuming the drug.

It is better to take Terramycin every day at the same time.

Terramycin treats different types of bacterial infections and can be used both by adults and by children. Thus, each age has different instructions.

For children above 8 years of age:

the usual daily dose is 25–50 mg per kg of body weight divided into 4 equal doses.

For Adults:

the usual daily dose is 1–2 g divided in 4 equal doses, depending on the severity of the infection.

For treatment of brucellosis, 500 mg oxytetracycline four times daily for 3 weeks should be accompanied by streptomycin, 1 gram intramuscularly twice daily the first week, and once daily the second week.

For treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, when penicillin is contraindicated, tetracycline may be used for the treatment of both males and females in the following divided dosage schedule: 1.5 grams initially followed by 0.5 gram q.i.d. for a total of 9.0 grams.

For treatment of syphilis, a total of 30–40 grams in equally divided doses over a period of 10–15 days should be given.

Do not stop taking Terramycin suddenly. Therapy should be continued for at least 24–48 hours after symptoms and fever have subsided.

If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately. Symptoms of Terramycin overdose: retching, diarrhoea, nausea.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
